George Segal

Segal creates mod rock casts of human figures and places them in familiar situations. By not painting or developing the mod rock further, he strips the figures of previous identity which makes them appear aerie and lifeless. This contrasts with the physical placing of the casts as they are put into a scene, almost creating a dialogue.
I like the way that Segal places the 'clones' into a stereotypical environment to enhance that particular activity.

For my Fourth Plinth project I am going to mod rock a figure. I am undecided as of yet what I want the overall appearance to look like, whether to leave the cast how it is or to cover it in paint to link with other pieces. Not sure!
